The decode_line_info function in dwarf2.c in the Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library (aka libbfd), as distributed in GNU Binutils 2.29, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (read_1_byte heap-based buffer over-read and application crash) via a crafted ELF file.
The bug was discovered 09/04/2017. The weakness was shared 09/04/2017 as Bug 22059 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at sourceware.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2017-14128 since 09/04/2017. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
