Use-after-free vulnerability in core/xml/XMLHttpRequest.cpp in Blink, as used in Google Chrome before 30.0.1599.101, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via vectors that trigger multiple conflicting uses of the same XMLHttpRequest object.

The weakness was disclosed 09/21/2013 by Atte Kettunen with OUSPG as Stable Channel Update as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at googlechromereleases.blogspot.ch. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-2925 since 04/11/2013. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/31/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70494 (Google Chrome < 30.0.1599.101 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166539 (OpenSuSE Security Update for chromium (openSUSE-SU-2013:1776-1)).

Upgrading to version 30.0.1599.101 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. A possible mitigation has been published 4 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
