Linux Kernel 3.11.6 drivers/video/au1100fb.c au1100fb_fb_rotate numeric error

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel 3.11.6 (Operating System). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function au1100fb_fb_rotate of the file drivers/video/au1100fb.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a numeric error vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-189. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Multiple integer overflows in Alchemy LCD frame-buffer drivers in the Linux kernel before 3.12 allow local users to create a read-write memory mapping for the entirety of kernel memory, and consequently gain privileges, via crafted mmap operations, related to the (1) au1100fb_fb_mmap function in drivers/video/au1100fb.c and the (2) au1200fb_fb_mmap function in drivers/video/au1200fb.c.

The weakness was shared 10/29/2013 by Fabian Yamaguchi and Nico Golde as Subject: Re: some unstracked linux kernel security fixes as confirmed advisory (oss-sec). It is possible to read the advisory at openwall.com. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-4511 since 06/12/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. Attacking locally is a requirement. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 75252 (openSUSE Security Update : kernel (openSUSE-SU-2014:0205-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 195877 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Linux Vulnerabilities (USN-2036-1)).

Applying the patch Fix a few incorrectly checked [io_]remap_pfn_range() calls is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (75252). The entries 11158, 11160 and 60752 are related to this item.
