A vulnerability was found in LibTIFF 4.0.9 (Image Processing Software). It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function LZWDecodeCompat

In LibTIFF 4.0.9, a heap-based buffer overflow occurs in the function LZWDecodeCompat in tif_lzw.c via a crafted TIFF file, as demonstrated by tiff2ps.
The bug was discovered 03/17/2018. The weakness was disclosed 03/22/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at bugzilla.maptools.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2018-8905 since 03/21/2018. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
