Mediawiki before 1.28.1 / 1.27.2 / 1.23.16 contains a XSS vulnerability in SearchHighlighter::highlightText() with non-default configurations.

The bug was discovered 04/06/2018. The weakness was presented 04/13/2018 (Website). The advisory is available at lists.wikimedia.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2017-0365 since 11/29/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
