Adobe Reader and Acrobat 10.x before 10.1.10 and 11.x before 11.0.07 on Windows and OS X do not properly implement JavaScript APIs, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information via a crafted PDF document.

The weakness was shared 05/13/2014 by Gábor Molnár with Ukatemi as APSB14-15 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at helpx.adobe.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-0521 since 12/20/2013. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 74011 (Adobe Acrobat < 10.1.10 / 11.0.07 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB14-15)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121867 (Adobe Reader and Acrobat Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB14-15)).

Upgrading to version 10.1.10 or 11.0.07 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at adobe.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
