A vulnerability has been found in Textpattern CMS up to 4.8.7 (Content Management System) and classified as problematic. The Secure attribute for sensitive cookies in HTTPS sessions is not set, which could cause the user agent to send those cookies in plaintext over an HTTP session. Textpattern CMS v4.8.7 and older vulnerability exists through Sensitive Cookie in HTTPS Session Without 'Secure' Attribute via textpattern/lib/txplib_misc.php. The secure flag is not set for txp_login session cookie in the application. If the secure flag is not set, then the cookie will be transmitted in clear-text if the user visits any HTTP URLs within the cookie's scope. An attacker may be able to induce this event by feeding a user suitable links, either directly or via another web site.

The weakness was published 06/29/2022. The advisory is shared at huntr.dev. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2021-40642 since 09/07/2021. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1539 for this issue.

Applying the patch 211fab0093999f59b0b61682aa988ac7d8337aa9 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com.
