The manipulation of the argument terme/letter with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in XOOPS 0.94 and 1.0 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary web script and HTML via the (1) terme parameter to search.php or (2) letter parameter to letter.php.

The weakness was disclosed 08/28/2004 with CyruxNET (Website). The advisory is shared for download at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2004-1640 since 02/21/2005. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details as well as a exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
