A vulnerability was found in Francisco Burzi PHP-Nuke up to 7.3 (Content Management System) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown part of the file index.php of the component Statistics Module. The manipulation of the argument date
with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Php-Nuke 6.x through 7.3 allow remote attackers inject arbitrary HTML or web script into the (1) optionbox parameter in the News module, (2) date parameter in the Statistics module, (3) year, month, and month_1 parameters in the Stories_Archive module, (4) mode, order, and thold parameters in the Surveys module, or (5) a SQL statement to index.php, as processed by mainfile.php.
The bug was discovered 05/17/2004. The weakness was released 05/17/2004 by Janek Vind with waraxe (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.theaimsgroup.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-2020 since 05/04/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
