A vulnerability was found in Trend Micro ServerProtect 5.58 (Anti-Malware Software). It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the file EarthAgent.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in Trend Micro ServerProtect 5.58 before Security Patch 2 Build 1174 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted data to (1) TCP port 5168, which triggers an overflow in the CAgRpcClient::CreateBinding function in the AgRpcCln.dll library in SpntSvc.exe; or (2) TCP port 3628, which triggers an overflow in EarthAgent.exe. NOTE: both issues are reachable via TmRpcSrv.dll.
The bug was discovered 05/07/2007. The weakness was presented 05/08/2007 by Eric Detoisien (Agent) (Website). The advisory is shared for download at esupport.trendmicro.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-2508 since 05/07/2007. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
The exploit is available at saintcorporation.com. It is declared as highly functional. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at esupport.trendmicro.com.
