IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager Os Deployment up to 5.0 memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager Os Deployment up to 5.0 (Directory Service Software). It has been declared as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the component Deployment. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

The management service in IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment before 5.1 Fix Pack 2 does not properly handle multipart/form-data in HTTP POST requests, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (daemon crash) via crafted POST requests to port 8080/tcp or 443/tcp.

The bug was discovered 05/02/2007. The weakness was disclosed 04/04/2007 by Aaron Portnoy (TippingPoint) with TippingPoint Security Research Team (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at www-1.ibm.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2007-1868 since 04/04/2007. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 07/17/2019). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.

A public exploit has been developed in Python. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 25005 (IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager OS Deployment Multiple Unspecified Input Validation Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Web Servers and running in the context r.

Upgrading to version 5.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 19640.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (33384) and Tenable (25005).
