The GOST ENGINE in OpenSSL before 1.0.0f does not properly handle invalid parameters for the GOST block cipher, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) via crafted data from a TLS client.
The weakness was shared 01/04/2012 by Andrew with Information Security Group at Royal Holloway, University of London (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at h20000.www2.hp.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-0027 since 12/07/2011. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 57551 (FreeBSD : OpenSSL -- multiple vulnerabilities (78cc8a46-3e56-11e1-89b4-001ec9578670)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
