The manipulation of the argument id with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-79. As an impact it is known to affect integrity. CVE summarizes:

Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in index.php in MODx CMS 0.9.6.2 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a JavaScript event in the username field, possibly related to snippet.ditto.php. NOTE: some sources list the id parameter as being affected, but this is probably incorrect based on the original disclosure.

The weakness was disclosed 01/22/2009 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at milw0rm.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2008-5939 since 01/21/2009. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

A public exploit has been developed by RoMaNcYxHaCkEr and been published before and not just after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 60 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (46796) and Exploit-DB (7204). The entries 46015, 46014, 46013 and 46011 are pretty similar.
