Cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability in the forum code in Moodle 1.7 before 1.7.7, 1.8 before 1.8.8, and 1.9 before 1.9.4 allows remote attackers to delete unauthorized forum posts via a link or IMG tag to post.php.

The weakness was released 02/09/2009 (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2009-0499. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 37466 (Fedora 10 : moodle-1.9.4-1.fc10 (2009-1699)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 116242 (Fedora Update for moodle (FEDORA-2009-1641)).

Upgrading to version 1.9.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
