Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in the web management interface in ZyWALL 10 4.07 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the rpAuth_1 page.

The weakness was shared 01/06/2004 by Rafel Ivgi (The Insider) as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2004-1789 since 05/04/2005. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

After 3 days, there has been an exploit disclosed. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 11492 (Sambar Server Multiple Script XSS), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses : XSS.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at zyxel.com. Attack attempts may be identified with Snort ID 1497.
