Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Mozilla Firefox before 3.5.12 and 3.6.x before 3.6.9, Thunderbird before 3.0.7 and 3.1.x before 3.1.3, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.7 allows user-assisted remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a selection that is added to a document in which the designMode property is enabled.
The weakness was released 09/09/2010 by Paul Stone as Bug 520189 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2010-2769 since 07/14/2010. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 49181 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118595 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2010:0681)).
Upgrading to version 1.0.9 eliminates this vulnerability.
