SUSE openSUSE Factory assigns ownership of the /var/log/cobbler/ directory tree to the web-service user account, which might allow local users to gain privileges by leveraging access to this account during root filesystem operations by the Cobbler daemon.

The weakness was disclosed 03/30/2011 with SuSE (Website). The advisory is shared for download at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-1551. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
