Apple Mac OS X up to 10.6.4 cryptographic issues

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

A vulnerability was found in Apple Mac OS X up to 10.6.4 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issues vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

The MobileMe component in Apple Mac OS X before 10.6.8 uses a cleartext HTTP session for the Mail application to read e-mail aliases, which allows remote attackers to obtain potentially sensitive alias information by sniffing the network.

The weakness was released 06/24/2011 by Aaron Sigel with vtty.com as HT4723 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2011-0207 since 12/23/2010. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 55416 (Mac OS X 10.6.x < 10.6.8 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119352 (Apple Mac OS X v10.6.8 and Security Update 2011-004 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2011-06-23-1)).

Upgrading to version 10.6.5 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (68220) and Tenable (55416). Entries connected to this vulnerability are available at 4323, 4377, 9918 and 55470.
