A vulnerability has been found in Dell SonicWALL Scrutinizer up to 9.0.1.19899 (Firewall Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component Default Password. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The MySQL component in Plixer Scrutinizer (aka Dell SonicWALL Scrutinizer) 9.0.1.19899 and earlier has a default password of admin for the (1) scrutinizer and (2) scrutremote accounts, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via a TCP session.
The weakness was released 07/31/2012 by Jonathan Claudius with Trustwave SpiderLabs (Website). The advisory is shared for download at trustwave.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-3951. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
It is declared as highly functional. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19957 (Junos Space MYSQL Hardcoded Credentials).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
