The kernel in Apple iOS before 8.3, Apple OS X before 10.10.3, and Apple TV before 7.2 allows attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds memory access) or obtain sensitive memory-content information via a crafted app.

The weakness was disclosed 05/19/2015 by Maxime Villard (lokihardt@ASRT) with m00nbsd as HT204870 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2015-1100 since 01/16/2015. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by Maxime Villard in ANSI C and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 82712 (Apple TV < 7.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. Upgrading to version 1.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
