Multiple open redirect vulnerabilities in Moodle through 2.5.9, 2.6.x before 2.6.11, 2.7.x before 2.7.8, and 2.8.x before 2.8.6 allow remote attackers to redirect users to arbitrary web sites and conduct phishing attacks via vectors involving an error page that links to a URL from an HTTP Referer header.

The weakness was presented 06/01/2015 (Website). The advisory is shared at moodle.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-3175 since 04/10/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1204.001 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 86032 (Fedora 23 : moodle-2.9.1-1.fc23 (2015-14987)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 124077 (Fedora Security Update for moodle (FEDORA-2015-14988)).

Upgrading to version 2.6.7, 2.7.4 or 2.8.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
