Affected by this issue is the function kvm_apic_has_events of the component KVM Virtualization Support. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability.

The weakness was disclosed 06/30/2015 as Bug 1230770 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2015-4692 since 06/19/2015. The attack needs to be approached locally. A simple authentication is necessary for exploitation.
