Google Chrome before 44.0.2403.89 does not ensure that the auto-open list omits all dangerous file types, which makes it easier for remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by providing a crafted file and leveraging a user's previous "Always open files of this type" choice, related to download_commands.cc and download_prefs.cc.

The weakness was published 07/23/2015 by Chamal De Silva (Cloudfuzzer) with Baidu X-Team as Stable Channel Update, July 2015 as confirmed release notes (Blog). It is possible to read the advisory at googlechromereleases.blogspot.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2015-1274 since 01/21/2015. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 06/03/2022). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1211 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
