The weakness was published 02/21/2013 by Chris Evans (Inferno) with Google Chrome Security Team as not defined changelog entry (Website). The advisory is shared for download at googlechromereleases.blogspot.com. The public release has been coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0890 since 01/07/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 05/05/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.

Upgrading to version 25.0.1364.97 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chromiumcodereview.appspot.com. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at chromiumcodereview.appspot.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
