Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 SP1 and SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP1 allow remote attackers to bypass intended read restrictions for content, and hijack user accounts, via a crafted URL, aka "Callback Function Vulnerability."
The weakness was published 03/12/2013 by Emanuel Bronshtein with BugSec as MS13-024 as confirmed bulletin (Microsoft Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The public release has been coordinated with Microsoft. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-0080 since 11/27/2012. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 65213 (MS13-024: Vulnerabilities in SharePoint Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2780176)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110208 (Microsoft SharePoint Privilege Escalation Vulnerability (MS13-024)).
Applying the patch MS13-024 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 12825.
