A vulnerability was found in WordPress up to 4.4.1 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function wp_http_validate_url of the file wp-includes/http.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. The wp_http_validate_url function in wp-includes/http.php in WordPress before 4.4.2 allows remote attackers to conduct server-side request forgery (SSRF) attacks via a zero value in the first octet of an IPv4 address.

The weakness was shared 05/22/2016 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at wordpress.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-2222 since 02/04/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
