Directory traversal vulnerability in libraries/error_report.lib.php in phpMyAdmin before 4.6.2-prerelease allows remote attackers to determine the existence of arbitrary files by triggering an error.
The weakness was disclosed 05/25/2016 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at phpmyadmin.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2016-5098 since 05/26/2016. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 168908 (OpenSuSE Security Update for phpMyAdmin (openSUSE-SU-2016:1556-1)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
