A vulnerability was found in MIT Kerberos 5 up to 1.14.2 (Network Authentication Software). It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function validate_as_request
of the component KDC Service. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. The weakness was released 07/20/2016 as Kerberos 5 Release 1.14.3 as confirmed release notes (Website). The advisory is available at web.mit.edu. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2016-3120 since 03/11/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. A authentication is necessary for exploitation.
