The jpc_pi_nextrpcl function in jpc_t2cod.c in JasPer before 1.900.17 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (assertion failure) via a crafted file.

The bug was discovered 03/23/2017. The weakness was released 03/23/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-9393 since 11/17/2016. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
