The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. The bug was discovered 11/19/2016. The weakness was shared 03/23/2017 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-9557 since 11/22/2016. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
