CVE-2025-32844 in TeleControl Server Basic
Summary
by MITRE • 04/16/2025
A vulnerability has been identified in TeleControl Server Basic (All versions < V3.1.2.2). The affected application is vulnerable to SQL injection through the internally used 'UnlockUser' method. This could allow an authenticated remote attacker to bypass authorization controls, to read from and write to the application's database and execute code with "NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService" permissions. A successful attack requires the attacker to be able to access port 8000 on a system where a vulnerable version of the affected application is executed on.
Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
Analysis
by VulDB Data Team • 08/19/2025
This vulnerability exists within TeleControl Server Basic versions prior to V3.1.2.2 and represents a critical sql injection flaw in the UnlockUser method. The vulnerability stems from inadequate input validation and sanitization within the application's internal database interaction mechanisms, allowing maliciously crafted inputs to be directly executed as sql commands against the underlying database system. The flaw specifically manifests when the application processes user unlock requests through the UnlockUser method, which fails to properly escape or parameterize user-supplied data before incorporating it into sql queries. This type of vulnerability falls under the common weakness enumeration CWE-89 which categorizes sql injection as a fundamental flaw in application security where untrusted data is embedded into sql commands without proper sanitization.
The operational impact of this vulnerability is severe and multifaceted, as it provides authenticated remote attackers with elevated privileges and direct database access. Attackers who can reach port 8000 on a vulnerable system gain the ability to bypass authorization controls that should normally prevent unauthorized database access. This access enables them to read sensitive data from the application's database, modify existing records, insert new data, and potentially execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the "nt authority\networkservice" account. The network service account typically has limited local system privileges but still represents a significant security compromise that could serve as a foothold for further attacks within the network infrastructure. This vulnerability directly aligns with attack techniques described in the attack pattern taxonomy under techniques that involve privilege escalation and data exfiltration.
The exploitation of this vulnerability requires an attacker to have valid authentication credentials to access the application's interface, but once authenticated, the attacker can leverage the sql injection flaw to escalate their privileges and access the underlying database system. The attack vector is remote and authenticated, meaning that an attacker does not need physical access to the system but must be able to establish a connection to port 8000 and provide valid credentials to the application. The affected application's database interactions through the UnlockUser method provide the attack surface where malicious sql payloads can be injected and executed, potentially leading to complete system compromise. Organizations should implement immediate mitigations including applying the vendor-provided patch to version 3.1.2.2 or higher, implementing network segmentation to restrict access to port 8000, and conducting thorough security assessments of all systems running vulnerable versions of TeleControl Server Basic. Additionally, monitoring for suspicious database access patterns and implementing proper input validation across all application interfaces will help prevent similar vulnerabilities from being exploited in the future.
