CVE-2026-106633 in Experience Managerinfo

Summary

by MITRE • 10/13/2026

Adobe Experience Manager is affected by a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability that could be abused by a low-privileged attacker to inject malicious scripts into vulnerable form fields. Malicious JavaScript may be executed in a victim's browser when they browse to the page containing the vulnerable field. Scope is changed.

Analysis

Adobe Experience Manager contains a stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability within its form handling components, which allows attackers with low-privileged accounts to inject malicious client-side scripts into persistent data fields. Unlike reflected XSS where the payload is delivered via a crafted link, this flaw resides in how the application stores and subsequently renders user-supplied input without adequate sanitization or encoding. When an attacker submits a specially crafted script through a vulnerable form field, the content is saved on the server side rather than being discarded or properly escaped. This persistence mechanism ensures that every subsequent request to view or edit the affected data will trigger the execution of the injected code in the context of any user accessing that page.

The operational impact of this vulnerability extends beyond simple script execution, as it fundamentally alters the security scope by enabling privilege escalation through social engineering and session hijacking techniques. Because the malicious JavaScript executes within the victim's browser while they are authenticated to Adobe Experience Manager, an attacker can manipulate the Document Object Model to steal sensitive information such as authentication cookies, session tokens, or personally identifiable data displayed on the page. Furthermore, the attacker could perform actions on behalf of the victim, including modifying content settings, creating new administrative users if sufficient privileges exist in the context, or redirecting the user to phishing sites designed to capture further credentials. This transforms a low-privileged account into a significant threat vector capable of compromising the integrity and confidentiality of the entire platform environment.

From a classification perspective, this vulnerability aligns with CWE-79 Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation commonly known as Cross-site Scripting. The specific nature of storing the payload before execution places it firmly within the domain of stored XSS rather than reflected or DOM-based variants. In terms of adversary tactics and techniques, this exploitation path corresponds to ATT&CK technique T1059 Command and Control via Application Layer Protocol when used for initial access or lateral movement, but more accurately maps to T1204 User Execution if it requires user interaction to trigger the stored payload upon viewing. The ability to execute arbitrary JavaScript in a trusted domain allows attackers to bypass many browser-based security controls that rely on origin checks, effectively granting them full control over the client-side application state during the victim's session.

Mitigation strategies must focus on both immediate remediation and long-term architectural improvements within Adobe Experience Manager deployments. Administrators should immediately apply the latest patches provided by Adobe which address this specific input validation flaw in form fields. In addition to patching, implementing a robust Content Security Policy is critical for limiting the impact of any successful XSS attempt by restricting script sources and preventing inline execution where possible. Input validation must be enforced at both the client and server levels, ensuring that all user-supplied data is strictly validated against expected formats before storage. Furthermore, output encoding should be applied consistently whenever dynamic content is rendered in HTML contexts to ensure special characters are escaped properly. Regular security audits and penetration testing focusing on stored XSS vectors will help identify similar weaknesses across other modules of the experience management platform.
