The bug was discovered 09/29/2016. The weakness was disclosed 04/19/2017 by Moshe Kaplan (oss-sec). The advisory is shared for download at openwall.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2016-7529 since 09/09/2016. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
