A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in ImageMagick 7.0 (Image Processing Software). This affects the function EncodeImage of the file coders/pict.c of the component PICT File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The EncodeImage function in coders/pict.c in ImageMagick allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via a crafted PICT file.
The bug was discovered 09/29/2016. The weakness was disclosed 04/20/2017 by Moshe Kaplan (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2016-7517 since 09/09/2016. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
