A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Synology Photo Station up to 6.5.3 (Network Attached Storage Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component synophoto_dsm_user. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in synophoto_dsm_user, a SUID program, as used in Synology Photo Station before 6.5.3-3226 allows local users to write to arbitrary files via unspecified vectors.
The bug was discovered 09/23/2015. The weakness was released 05/12/2017 as not defined mailinglist post (oss-sec). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2016-10330 since 04/18/2017. Local access is required to approach this attack. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation.
