This affects some unknown processing of the file readelf.c of the component ELF File Handler. The manipulation as part of a Application leads to a type conversion vulnerability. readelf.c in GNU Binutils 2017-04-12 has a "cannot be represented in type long" issue, which might allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted ELF file.
The bug was discovered 05/12/2017. The weakness was disclosed 05/18/2017 (Website). The advisory is shared at blogs.gentoo.org.
