Microsoft Office 2007 SP3 and Word 2007 SP3 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted Office document, aka "Word Memory Corruption Vulnerability," a different vulnerability than CVE-2013-3854.

The issue has been introduced in 01/30/2007. The weakness was released 09/10/2013 by Mateusz Jurczyk, Ben Hawkes and Ivan Fratric with Google Security Team as MS13-072 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is shared at technet.microsoft.com. The public release was coordinated with Microsoft. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-3853 since 06/03/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/24/2021).

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2415 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69832 (MS13-072: Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2845537)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 110216 (Microsoft Office Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS13-072)).
