A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird 24.0 (Web Browser). It has been classified as very critical. Affected is the function Worker::SetEventListener. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The Worker::SetEventListener function in the Web workers implementation in Mozilla Firefox before 25.0, Firefox ESR 17.x before 17.0.10 and 24.x before 24.1, Thunderbird before 24.1, Thunderbird ESR 17.x before 17.0.10, and SeaMonkey before 2.22 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via vectors related to direct proxies.
The weakness was presented 10/29/2013 by Nils as Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory 2013-101 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-5602 since 08/26/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/25/2025).
