Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Mozilla Firefox before 26.0 and SeaMonkey before 2.23 makes it easier for remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML by leveraging a Same Origin Policy violation triggered by lack of a charset parameter in a Content-Type HTTP header.

The weakness was presented 12/10/2013 by Masato Kinugawa as MFSA2013-106 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with Mozilla. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-5612 since 08/26/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71354 (CentOS 5 / 6 : firefox (CESA-2013:1812)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks.
