A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Mozilla Firefox 25.0.1 (Web Browser). This issue affects the function nsNodeUtils::LastRelease. Use-after-free vulnerability in the nsNodeUtils::LastRelease function in the table-editing user interface in the editor component in Mozilla Firefox before 26.0, Firefox ESR 24.x before 24.2, Thunderbird before 24.2, and SeaMonkey before 2.23 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by triggering improper garbage collection.
The weakness was shared 12/10/2013 by Nils as MFSA2013-109 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mozilla.org. The vendor cooperated in the coordination of the public release. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-5618 since 08/26/2013. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 71354 (CentOS 5 / 6 : firefox (CESA-2013:1812)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
