A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Joomla CMS up to 3.8.7 (Content Management System). This issue affects an unknown code of the component PHAR File Handler. An issue was discovered in Joomla! Core before 3.8.8. Depending on the server configuration, PHAR files might be handled as executable PHP scripts by the webserver.
The bug was discovered 05/02/2018. The weakness was presented 05/22/2018 (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2018-11322 since 05/21/2018. The attack may be initiated remotely. A simple authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1608.002 for this issue.
