A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Pidgin 2.10.7 (Messaging Software). Affected is an unknown code block of the component HTTP Response Handler. util.c in libpurple in Pidgin before 2.10.8 does not properly allocate memory for HTTP responses that are inconsistent with the Content-Length header, which allows remote HTTP servers to cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted response.
The weakness was presented 01/28/2014 by Jacob Appelbaum with Tor Project as Remote crash parsing HTTP responses as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at pidgin.im. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-6479 since 11/04/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
