A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Wireshark (Packet Analyzer Software). In Wireshark 2.6.0 to 2.6.1, 2.4.0 to 2.4.7, and 2.2.0 to 2.2.15, the HTTP2 dissector could crash. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-http2.c by verifying that header data was found before proceeding to header decompression.
The bug was discovered 07/18/2018. The weakness was presented 07/19/2018 as Bug 14869 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugs.wireshark.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2018-14369 since 07/17/2018. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
