A vulnerability was found in GnuTLS (Network Encryption Software) (unknown version). It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown code block of the component HMAC-SHA-256. It was found that the GnuTLS implementation of HMAC-SHA-256 was vulnerable to a Lucky thirteen style attack. Remote attackers could use this flaw to conduct distinguishing attacks and plaintext-recovery attacks via statistical analysis of timing data using crafted packets.
The bug was discovered 08/21/2018. The weakness was published 08/22/2018 by Amir as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2018-10844 since 05/09/2018. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely.
