A vulnerability was found in Apple Mac OS X 10.8.5/10.9/10.9.1 (Operating System). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the component Type 1 Fonts. Apple Type Services (ATS) in Apple OS X before 10.9.2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted Type 1 font that is embedded in a document.

The weakness was presented 02/25/2014 by Felix Groebert with Google Security Team as HT6150 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-1254 since 01/08/2014. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72687 (Mac OS X 10.9.x < 10.9.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
