A vulnerability was found in Linux Foundation Xen up to 3.2.3 (Virtualization Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function FLASK_GETBOOL/FLASK_SETBOOL/FLASK_USER/FLASK_CONTEXT_TO_SID of the component Flask Hypercall. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a numeric error vulnerability. Multiple integer overflows in unspecified suboperations in the flask hypercall in Xen 3.2.x and earlier, when XSM is enabled, allow local users to cause a denial of service (processor fault) via unspecified vectors, a different vulnerability than CVE-2014-1891, CVE-2014-1892, and CVE-2014-1893.
The weakness was disclosed 02/10/2014 by Matthew Daley as XSA-84 as confirmed mailinglist post (Mailing List). The advisory is shared at xenbits.xenproject.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-1894 since 02/07/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 72539 (Fedora 20 : xen-4.3.1-9.fc20 (2014-2170)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166935 (OpenSuSE Security Update for xen (openSUSE-SU-2014:0483-1)).
Applying the patch xsa84-4.1.patch/xsa84-4.2.patch/xsa84-unstable-4.3.patch is able to eliminate this problem.
