CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in haxx.se cURL and libcURL up to 7.25.0 (Network Utility Software). Affected by this issue is the function hostmatch of the component SSL Certificate Handler. The manipulation as part of a Wildcard leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is integrity. CVE summarizes:

cURL and libcurl 7.1 before 7.36.0, when using the OpenSSL, axtls, qsossl or gskit libraries for TLS, recognize a wildcard IP address in the subject s Common Name (CN) field of an X.509 certificate, which might allow man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof arbitrary SSL servers via a crafted certificate issued by a legitimate Certification Authority.

The weakness was presented 03/26/2014 by Roland Moriz as adv_20140326B as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at curl.haxx.se. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-0139 since 12/03/2013. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 32 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 83155 (Mandriva Linux Security Advisory : lftp (MDVSA-2015:213)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Mandriva Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 43619 (Juniper Junos OS Multiple vulnerabilities in cURL versions (JSA10874)).

Upgrading to version 7.36.0 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at curl.haxx.se. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (92130), Tenable (83155), SecurityFocus (BID 66458†), Secunia (SA57434†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-56917†). westpoint.ltd.uk is providing further details.
