A vulnerability was found in GNU elfutils 0.175. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function read_srclines of the file dwarf_getsrclines.c. A heap-based buffer over-read was discovered in the function read_srclines in dwarf_getsrclines.c in libdw in elfutils 0.175. A crafted input can cause segmentation faults, leading to denial-of-service, as demonstrated by eu-nm.
The bug was discovered 01/22/2019. The weakness was released 01/29/2019 by Agostino Sarubbo with Gentoo (Website). The advisory is shared at sourceware.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2019-7149 since 01/28/2019. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
