Use-after-free vulnerability in the nsHostResolver::ConditionallyRefreshRecord function in libxul.so in Mozilla Firefox before 29.0, Firefox ESR 24.x before 24.5, Thunderbird before 24.5, and SeaMonkey before 2.26 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (heap memory corruption) via vectors related to host resolution.

The weakness was published 04/29/2014 by Tyson Smith and Jesse Schwartzentruber with BlackBerry as MFSA2014-46 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-1532 since 01/16/2014. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 73790 (CentOS 5 / 6 : firefox (CESA-2014:0448)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks.
