A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in rdesktop up to 1.8.3. This affects the function process_demand_active. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. rdesktop versions up to and including v1.8.3 contain an Out-Of-Bounds Read in the function process_demand_active() that results in a Denial of Service (segfault).
The bug was discovered 02/05/2019. The weakness was disclosed 03/15/2019 (Website). The advisory is shared at research.checkpoint.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2018-20178 since 12/17/2018. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely.
